Slot 1: Portrait der ZKM-Gastkünstlerin Kotoka Suzuki

Kotoka Suzuki, born in Tokyo, Japan, is a composer focusing on both multimedia and instrumental practices. She has produced several symphonic and multimedia works including spatial interactive audiovisual work for both concert and installation settings, often in collaboration with artists and scholars from other disciplines. Her work is often produced in relationship to a specific site. Her work has been featured internationally at numerous festivals such as Inventionen (Germany), Ultraschall (Germany), ISCM-World Music Days (Hong Kong), Klangwerktage (Germany), sound:frame (Austria), Pan Music Festival (Korea), ICMC (Cuba, Singapore, Spain, Ireland, Canada, New York & Slovania), Melos Ethos (Slovakia), and Music at the Anthology (New York) by performers such as Arditti String Quartet, Continuum, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra (Germany), Pacifica Quartet and Earplay Ensemble. She has received many awards, including Bourges, DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, Robert Fleming Prize from Canada Council for the Arts, Howard Foundation Fellowship, Gerald Oshita Memorial Fellowship from Djerassi Artist in Residence, Yaddo Residency Fellowship, and Musica Nova Honor Prize. Her commissions include those from Sender Freies Berlin Radio, MATA, Inventionen Festival, DAAD, Sinus-Ton Festival, and Penderecki String Quartet. Her work has been published by Edition RZ, EMF Media, and IMEB records. Suzuki is an Associate Composer at the Canadian Music Centre since 2001. Kotoka Suzuki is working during a guest artist residency in the ZKM Ateliers from January to April, 2013.

Hören Sie hier weitere Mitschnitte von Konzerten des Festivals PIANO+ 2012. Das von Catherine Vickers kuratierte Festival findet seit dem Jahr 2005 regelmäßig im ZKM statt und erlebte im Jahr 2012 seine achte Auflage. PIANO+ widmet sich schwerpunktmäßig der Verbindung von Klavier und Elektronik. In vier Konzerten wurden zentrale Positionen der zeitgenössischen Klavierliteratur vorgestellt, die den Rahmen des Instruments medial, theatral oder elektroakustisch erweitern. Das Klavier, Symbol der bürgerlichen Musikkultur schlechthin, wird hier zum Instrument des musikalischen Fortschritts.
